PSYCHOLOGICAL THRILLERS BY AWARD WINNING AUTHOR -
J W LAWSON
"An excellent read"
Amazon.co.uk review of Third Time Lucky
This is certainly a 5-Star book - although it does seem a little strange to say "I love it", given the harrowing content. I won't summarise the story, as that has been done elsewhere - suffice it to say that it is a harsh introduction to the mental and physical damage caused by abuse. It's a well-written book - you really care for the characters. You get inside their skin; you see, feel and suffer as they do; you are willing them to succeed and overcome their problems.
I liked the short chapters at the beginning which were each broken down into three short sections - these cause an urgency to your reading; the need to turn the page; read the next section / chapter; find out what happens next. As the plot developed I was well and truly hooked. The twist at the end was a true surprise.
I have great admiration for anyone who can research and write a complete novel, as the time and dedication needed are immense. Well done J W Lawson on an excellent first book - I admire you. If there is a follow-up, I will gladly buy it.
Another gripping psychological drama from JW. As with 'Third Time Lucky', we are exploring the inner recesses of the mind, only in this case we see twins, Annie incarcerated for multiple murder and Maggie disfigured and with memory loss. However, all is not what it seems and it is looking as though the wrong twin has been imprisoned. Into this comes Doctor Jonathan, the psychiatrist from the previous book, who sets himself the unenviable task of sorting out who is telling the truth, whilst also dealing with demons of his own. As we get deeper into the story, our accusations swing from one twin to the other, and occasionally away from both.
Told in the form of diary entries, we are reminded of the best of the Victorian writers, whilst being given insight into the dark thought processes of each of the suspects.
Impossible to put down.

"Brilliant New Author"
Amazon co.uk review of Third Time Lucky
I adore psychological thrillers but can sometimes find books following a predictable pattern however this book is refreshing in that it's original and you can really feel the pain the characters are suffering, it moved me to tears and you are routing for the characters to triumph through their battle. The book sensitively highlights the appalling treatment of abuse victims without making belittling or sensationalising the experiences; clever writing helps the imagination to fill in the gaps. Hurry up Book 2 I say, brilliant new author!!
"Heartbreaking, yet brilliant"
Amazon.com review of Third Time Lucky
This book pulls at your heartstrings right from the start. It's a harrowing journey for the three main characters who have been abused and seek recovery and....revenge. So gripping yet so tragically sad. Addictive yet agonising. An absolute must for fans of psychological thrillers.
"Compelling and impossible to put down"
Amazon review of Third Time Lucky
A compelling psychological drama that is impossible to put down. The writing flows beautifully and the story drags you in and won't let you go. JW demonstrates a deep understanding of the human psyche and the characters leap off the screen and into your own head. I've read and enjoyed Mummy's Little Angel as well, and the quality of both are exceptional. I can wait for more from this author.
"If you like a good "who dunnit", then read this book"
Amazon review of Mummy's Little Angel
This is a truly nightmarish story. Joanne's twin daughters appear to be as evil as each other and you don't know who to believe or who to suspect of the hideous crimes. At times they seem quite human ... then in the next diary entry, either one of them could be a psychopath. It's a well-crafted twisting, turning story and you just have to keep on reading. The ending was most unexpected.
I read and enjoyed JW Lawson's first book, Third Time Lucky, which set the scene for Mummy's Little Angel and I liked the way the characters from the first book came through into the second. Although Mummy's Little Angel can be read and enjoyed as a stand-alone book, it did help to know the background of the family.
I hope there is a third book, as I would like to see a certain person get the punishment she deserves.
"A terrifying Chiller"
Amazon review of Mummy's Little Angel
As a huge fan of suspense thrillers, I bought this book having already read Third Time Lucky. It's a terrifying story of identical twins, Annie and Maggie who are both disturbed and manipulative young women, accused of hideous crimes. Their mother, Joanne is convinced that, despite one of her daughters being imprisoned, they are both innocent and misunderstood. How wrong she is; the question is which daughter is really the psychopath? JW Lawson's writing talent takes you on a harrowing journey where your mind switches from believing Annie... then Maggie. In line with Third Time Lucky, you can't stop turning the pages and the ending is a real shock. A brilliant read.
PROFESSIONAL REVIEWS OF MUMMY'S LITTLE ANGEL:
Warren Adler: Multi-award winning best selling author of War of the Roses:
'I was intrigued to find out who the murderous twin was throughout the novel. Vivid characters and deliriously confusing
that fits the theme of the novel.'
Brooke Burgess: Award Winning Author and Producer:
'Intriguing family / mystery/ thriller/ murder tale. I could see it as a twisted film of 4hr Netflix mini.'
Alistair Cross: Award Winning Author:
'Beautifully claustrophobic in its intimacy, this novel was compelling in a quiet, haunting way.'
Christopher Klim, Senior Editor, the usreview.com / Author:
'Joanne's identical twin daughters, Maggie and Annie, are suspected of horrible crimes, but are they really guilty? From the
opening pages, Maggie appears to be the most dangerous, but Annie is keeping secrets and harboring plenty of anger.
Don't put your allegiance in any one basket. That will shift during the course of this haunting tale of death and betrayal.
Told in alternating diary form, the narrative delivers both as a classic Victorian novel and yet again as a contemporary chiller.
Author JW Lawson evokes echoes of the classic horror-suspense-thriller, The Other, winding up suspense through cutting
interiority and the closely held secrets of its players, but Mummy's Little Angel still manages to capture the flaws and, yes,
the fragility of humanity. The well-crafted unreliable narrators are confessing in the subtext, but the story is bold and original.'
